# Entsorgo

We set out in 2016 to make ordering a skip possible online. Today it is a full business management system handling over a thousand containers a month.

## About the project

We started in 2016 with a simple question: why can you not order a skip as easily as a pair of shoes?

Back then this was a telephone business in Germany too. You called the provider, described what you were throwing out and where, they called back with a price, you thought about it, they called again. Two days would pass before a container moved.

entsorgo began as a small webshop to replace that. Today it is a full business management system with its own mobile app, an office in Berlin and a team that covers everything from customer support to accounting. More than a thousand container orders run through it every month.

This is not a client project for me. I am a co-founder of entsorgo and I have been building the system since 2016. :)

### The question nobody had a good answer to

Waste collection looks simple on paper: a container arrives, it fills up, it goes away. In practice almost every variable moves. The price differs by postcode, by waste type and by container size. And the person ordering usually does not know which one they need, because "I am ripping out the old bathroom" is not a waste category.

That is why the industry stayed on the phone. Not because nobody thought of the web, but because you have to be able to calculate a price before you can publish one.

### Step one: put the price on the page

The first version did essentially one thing. It gave you a price straight away from your postcode, your waste type and the container size, and let you order it there and then. Nothing else.

Nothing else was the point. Someone who used to wait two days for a quote was done in half a minute. From then on ordering a container online was not a promise, it was a button.

### How a webshop turned into a system

As order volume grew it turned out the harder half was not on the customer's side. Behind every order there is a regional partner who has to drive out, a haul to schedule, a proof of delivery, an invoice and a settlement. At first people held that together, by e-mail and from memory.

That is what pushed entsorgo from a webshop into a full business management system, an **ERP** of its own. Today the same system runs order intake, partner assignment, customer communication, invoicing and the preparation of the books, with a mobile app for the people out in the field. Off-the-shelf software could not have done it, because here the process is the product.

### When AI joined in

The most recent big step was processing incoming supplier invoices. A nationwide partner network invoices us, and for a long time that was manual work: somebody read the data off the invoice, found the matching order, compared the two, and chased anything that did not line up.

The old answer to this was **OCR**, but OCR only recognised the characters, not the structure: every new invoice layout needed its own template, and a photographed invoice stopped it dead. Artificial intelligence does that now. The machine reads the invoice, matches it to the order and speaks up when something is off. A person steps in where the decision genuinely needs a person.

That work became Milcomp's own **AI invoice processing** service, which we now [roll out for other companies too](https://milcomp.hu/en/services/#text-image-tabs-9-0). The invoice is only the first document type: the same kind of intelligent document processing works on delivery notes and contracts. There is [a separate piece](https://milcomp.hu/en/news/ai-invoice-processing/) on how it looks in practice. What we learned here in production did not have to be learned twice.

### Where it stands today

entsorgo offers over 20 container sizes and more than 40 waste types, across the whole of Germany, with delivery within 24 hours. More than a thousand container orders run through the system every month.

Most of the order intake happens without anyone touching it. The team does not grow because there is more typing to do; it grows because there are more customers to serve.

### What ten years taught me

First, the biggest obstacle is rarely technical. With online container ordering the question was never whether we could build it, but whether we dared publish a price without talking to the customer first. That yes was a business decision, not a developer's.

Second, process automation amplifies whatever process you point it at. If the path of an incoming invoice is a mess, AI will not tidy it up; it will produce the mess faster. Sort the process out first, then bring in the machine.

Third, a system like this is never finished. Every year since 2016 we have rewritten something in it, because the way the company works had changed in the meantime. That is not a defect. It is the only way a system grows alongside the business.

Planning something similar?

Tell us what you need and we will tell you how much work it is, how long it takes and what it costs. Including when we think it is not worth building.

Let's talk about it
